The technique is kind of arduous and even though everyone ends up with some gold flakes to take home, it felt like it would be more fun for kids. Then we learn how to pan for gold, and get to try it ourselves. Next Liz taught us about the gold rush and showed us examples of the huge and super dangerous machinery they used for dredging the rivers. Then everyone's favorite part: you get to meet a team of sled dogs and hold some sled dog puppies! And we had a great time, largely because our guide, Longshot Liz, was so great.įirst Liz took us to meet the sled dog mushers who run the Itiderod every year, and it was fascinating to learn about how they survive in such extreme physical conditions and low temperatures. ![]() ![]() We signed up for the Gold Panning, Sled Dogs & Exclusive Scenic Railway tour as an excursion from our cruise ship - it sounded like it might just be a tourist trap but gave it a shot.
